Today I am going to alternate Japanese and English, but I am not translating one language to the other. I will alternate the two languages and see what happens. Would it be an interesting read?
About a week ago I had a major accident with my laptop.
コーヒーをおもいっきり、ラップトップ上に、こぼしてしまったのです。
The keyboard part of it got messed up. My computer started typing random letters (and even had difficulty starting up). I somehow managed to do things on it (e.g., writing and recording), but I finally decided to take a drastic step last night.
ネットで色々と調べた結果、３つぐらいの方法があることが書いてあったのですが、一番利きそうだったのがこれ。
Disable the keyboard by opening the machine and remove the cable that is connecting the keyboard and the machine.
そうすることで、コンピュータのキーボードが完全に機能しなくなりますが、メリットとしては、外部のキーボードにつなげることで、使えるようになるということでした。
コンピュータにくっついているキーボードがやられているために、ランダムに字を打ったりしているわけですから、それをＤＩＳＡＢＬＥしてしまうということです。
I took off all the screws from the back of the computer and tried to remove the keyboard part. I thought the keyboard itself would come off easily, but ....
しか～し、難題が。表のカバーが半分ぐらいははずれたものの、ＣＤ／ＤＶＤプレーヤーの部分が、ねじじゃないもので接合されていて、完全に開きません。それでも、なんとか、だましだまし、中をのぞける状態。
Still I was able to reach the two codes connecting the computer and the keyboard AND the computer and the mouse pad. I removed them carefully, closed the machine, and put the screws back to where they were.
スタートしてみると、ラップトップが普通に機能しはじめました！もともとついていたキーボードとマウスパッドは使えませんが、外部のキーボードとマウスで操作しています（コーヒーをこぼす前からそうだったので、不便なし）。
I was able to fix my laptop quickly --- thanks to the Internet and people (whom I've never met). English helped me a lot as it allowed me to access a vast amount of information that is out there.
しかし、世界にはたくさん、コーヒーをラップトップ上でこぼしてしまう人がいるのですね～～。
ところで、三羽さんも自作ＰＣを作られるそうなので、メールで質問させていただきました。
今回、実は、たまたま日本人のコンピュータの専門家の人と、先週、会食をしたんです。それは隣人が、「ビール飲みに行きましょう」と誘ってくれたのですけど、そのお友達のかたでした。
He (the computer tech guy) said, "I am not sure if the keyboard evens comes off..."
理論的には、ねじをはずせば、ラップトップからキーボードをはずすことができるはず、、、でも、そのかたいわく、はずせないかもとおっしゃっていたわけですが、これが、正しかったのです！
この情報を持っていなければ、たぶん、新しいキーボードの部分を２５ドル程度で注文したあとで、今回の作業を敢行していたでしょう。そしたら、きっと、新しい部品の交換は、無理だったと思いますので（ラップトップが完全には開かないため）、お金が無駄になっていたことでしょう。
インターネットだけだと、この部分でしくじっていました。友人の友人である技術者のかたのアドバイスで救われました。
I feel like we are in the new world! I can learn about things on the Internet or from friends.
＜ところで、、、今度は、音が出なくなりました。どなかた、これを直す方法、ご存じないですか。キーボードからの配線をとったら、音も出なくなった、、、機種はＴＯＳＨＩＢＡ Ｃ６５５ Ｓ５２１２です。スピーカーからも出ませんし、ヘッドフォンからも音がでません。＞
皆さん、英語で新しい知識の学習にトライするとよいですよ。人口のサイズが違います。
ちなみに、私自身も、たぶん、中東の人と思われる名前の人から、突然、ある統計モデルに関する質問をもらっていて、答えてあげています。ラッシュモデルという統計モデルに関することです。
Am I just a generous person?
いえ、そうでもないような、、、。
Last year, someone helped me with another statistical technique (called the ROC Curve Analysis). I don't know him personally, but he helped me understand the technique and gave me some macro programs to use in SAS (statistical software of my choice).
結局、去年は知らない人が助けてくれたわけで、今度は、私が、違う人を助けてあげるという、循環のシステムです。
そして、私たち（去年助けてくれた人、今、たぶんヨルダンからメールをくれている人、そして私）、必ずしも英語のネイティブじゃないけど、英語で情報を無料交換しているわけです。
物々交換、、、じゃなくて、情報交換？？？
英語喉関係でも、そんな感じで、協力しあいましょう！！！！
